interpersonal concept that being applied in The Tourist movie

INTRODUCTION

It was all starting with one letter from Elise’s boyfriend who is Alexander which was wrote that asked her to find someone who has the same height and looked alike he as the scapegoat to make his enemy which was the police and the gangster gang he was being participate before confused..After that Elise (role play by Angelina Jolie) takes a train which she met American tourist, Frank (role play by Johnny Depp). After having a long conversation, an investigation police starting to believed that the man that with Elise was Alexander. They try to follow him and at the same time there were some spy from the gangster gang in the police department updating them about Alexander and here is when the story begin by Frank being followed by police and also being attacked by the gangster gang which make he himself confused about the reason he being attacked. After that frank was realised that he being trap in Elise big plan and he realised that everyone chase him with dodging bullets through both the historic streets of Paris and the winding canals of Venice. Suitable with its tagline “It All Started When He Met A Woman”, Frank life was totally changed after met Elise Now, the faster Frank and Elise run, the more intense their romance grows and Elise starting to do everything in order to save Frank’s life and at the same time Frank also willing to put himself in danger in order to save Elise’s life.

This movie has many of the interpersonal elements which make me choose it as my part of review. The elements are :

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION IS A DICTINCTIVE FORM OF COMMUNICATION

This type of interpersonal communication happens when you treat people as objects or when you respond to their roles rather than to whom they are as unique people. This situation happen in this movie when Elise try to be closed with Frank in order to make him as scapegoat of her boyfriend. At this time she never thinks about Frank’s safety as to her Frank is someone to be used for her goodness only. In this case she treat Frank as the object rather than the unique people.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION INVOLVES MUTUAL INFLUENCE BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS

Interpersonal communication involver mutual influences between individual means all partners in the communications are affected by a transaction. Sometimes it may involves word and sometimes in does not involves words. For example in this movie, from the stranger to the friends and then close friends, Frank and Elise build this relationship by having a long conversation which was involves communication. Another example was when Elise try to save Frank from the gangster, she followed Frank’s boat and only give him eye signal and after that both of them manage to escape from the gang

UNDERSTANDING INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION CAN IMPROVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH FRENDS AND LOVERS

Sometimes in relationship we have some up and down. It happens because none of us perfect. Same goes to this movie. After realizing that he was being used by Elise, Frank try to slow talk and asked Elise the reason he stuck in that problem and after Elise tell him half of the truth finally he manage to know that the reason she put him as a victim. But after that he try to find her as he realized that he was in love with her.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION CONNECTS US WITH OTHERS

By interpersonal communication also will connect us with others. Imagine how we can build relationship if we does not have any communication form with our partner. Even to start relationship we have to know people name to make us easily called people by their true name. In this movie, in order to get any update from Alexander, Elise has receiver the clue letter which will inform her about their next meeting location. Elise also has the communication form with the police officer that she co-operates with by the small microphone.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION IS IRREVERSIBLE

As all of us know and aware everything that we have said cannot being taken back. Malay idioms also said terlajak perahu boleh diundur,terlajak kata tak mampu ditarik balik. By that idioms we realized that in this life everything that we hd said cannot being taken back. Same goes to this movie, when the chief of the gang threaten Elise to tell him where is the safety that Alexander keep 44millions pound, at first and second she said she did not know and she also said she will tell if she know it and after being threaten by the chief of the gang, that he will stretch her face if she insists not telling truth to him, and after that she tell him where us the safety. In this case she cannot take back what she had said at first and second and because of that she nearly put her life in a danger.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION IS COMPLICATED

As we communicate, sometimes the messages that we want to send sometimes doesn’t same with what the receiver receive. In other words we cannot tell people what exactly we mean. Elise try many time to tell Frank that he will jeopardize his life if he insists to stay with Elise. But as a man who love Elise with full of his heart, he think that it was his responsible to protect Elise. For example when Elise was stuck with the gangster, without thinking of his life, Frank confess himself as Alexander which Elise realised that confession will kill him but for Frank he will sacrifice his life in order to make Elise stay alive.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION IS GOVERNED BY RULES

Interpersonal communication also has its rules which is involves implicit and explicit situation. In other words, implicit is more to what instructor highlight the rules at you for example, you have to be punctual oh the lecturer class whereby explicit is more to self governed rules which was if you are on diet you asked yourself to avoid fat foods. Elise also faced with this type of communication. She had to overboard her principles that want to save her boyfriend and save Frank after realized that she also loves him. So, in this case Elise has going overboard of explicit. Whereas, implicit, Elise misuse her power as the CBI officer and doing her investigation by her own without using the rules that being highlight by her department.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION INVOLVES BOTH CONTENT AND RELATIONSHIP DIMENSIONS

Words does not gives the messages what you exactly want to say besides sometimes you need some facial expression and body language to express your real messages. In this movies, in order to tell Frank that she loves him, she does not gives it straight away by her words besides she gives it by her facial expression and her body language which she kissed him as to show her love.

SELF DISCLOSURE: CONNECTING SELF TO OTHERS THROUGH TALK

The more we have the conversation and communication the deeper relationship we can build was the easily was to define self disclosure: connecting self to others through talk. For example, before knowing each other, Elise did not tell Frank the reason he pick Frank as the Alexander scapegoat but after have the deeper relationship, then she realized that she has to tell him about her plan.

SELF DISCLOSURE REFLECTS PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE NATURE OF YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

After knowing your partner the deeper, of course you can build the intimate relationship as you already know the good and bad about your partner. At the first meeting in the train, Frank already know what exactly Elise doesn’t like such as she does not like man who are too straightforward and keep asking questions. By knowing that, in order to build the deeper relationship, he avoid to do the things that Elise doesn’t like.

CONCLUSION

As conclusion, in daily routine we were facing with interpersonal communication either we realized it or not. In this movie itself, starting from the beginning until the end of movie, every role have their own interpersonal communication. But there were several interpersonal communication skill that we have to improve. For instance, in order to make sure that the messages was delivered, we have to see sender face, but the problem is, many part of this movie, have not had this elements. For example, in the ballroom, when Elise try to tell Frank to stay away from her, she just tell him without looking her face. This is the weakness of interpersonal communication in this movie. Overall, this movie has the good elements of interpersonal communication.

INTRODUCTION

Nasib Do Re Mi being directed from its first movie that is Do Re Mi. In this movie, the director make Do, Re and Mi become closer. The story begin when Do, Re and Mi saw the gangster gang beat one man whose name Lokman. Lokman’s girlfriend cannot do anything as the gang which was have 4 people in that gang. Luckily, Do, Re and Mi was passed nearby and tried to give some help but unfortunately they being beat terribly until all of the collapsed. On the humanity value, Nora and Lokman send them to the hospital and when both of them going to visit Do, Re and Mi, the three men already not in the ward. While Do, Re and Mi was arrived on one house and they decided to spend their night there. While having their sleeping time, suddenly, it was a car with 4 men arrived at that house. Three of them overheard the conversation between the gang master and his 4 men. In the conversation, they heard that the master want to see bomoh to make Nora fall in love with him. In order to survive, they have the plan to being a bomoh in order to earn some money. When the master and the master arrived at the bomoh’s house, Re which was pretended as bomoh tell him that Nora will come to him after he buried one chain in front of her house and on the night when the master buried the chain, Do, Re and Mi being catches by Nora’s father and here is when Lokman and Nora met people who save them. After that they have the planned to trap Komeng as they suspect Komeng was one of the master plan behind of the bank robbery and their plan was succeed as Komeng and the gang being catches and Nora and Lokman marriage and happily ever after.

LET GO OF THE PAST

In this life sometimes we cannot bee too vengeful. As for Komeng he was being si vengeful after Nora reject his proposal. Started from that he stalks every Nora movement as he did not satisfied with Nora selection whom was Lokman. After that he was willing to do everything in order to make Nora fall in love with him until he went to see bomoh for some ‘treatment’. In this movie Komeng does not let go the past as he think the past was his future. His greedy attitude become trap to his gang and also himself.

SELF-DISCLOSURE INVOLVER RISK

When involving with self disclosure, the more we know someone the higher risk we build among us. In this movie, when Lokman and Do Re and Mi become closer, they make planned to trap Komeng as Komeng was one of the wanted criminal that Police want. In this case, Do Re and Mi put their life in risk and try to help Lokman and Nora.

SELF- DISCLOSURE INVOLVES TRUST

As a human we always share everything with someone that we trust. In this movie, Komeng trust his gang as he know that his gang will not betray over him. Same goes to Lokman and Nora, they believed Do Re and Mi in order to make their plan success. Because of trusting among each other, their plan was succeed.

PERCEIVING OTHERS

Everyone of us has our perception towards others. We tend to perceive people on the first impression. In this movie, Nora’s father perceive Do, Re and Mi as the thieves and asked the villagers to catch them. But after Lokman confront with him that the three guys were the one that save them then Nora’s father release them. In this case Nora’s father starting to perceive Do Re and Mi before knowing them but after knowing them, he know that they are the good guys.

DEVELOP HONEST RELATIONSHIPS

In build any relationship, we must honest to develop it. As Nora and Lokman they build their relationship based on faithful and trusting. They accept each other based on what they are. As for Komeng, he did not honest in building the relationship so that Komeng love being rejected by Nora as she know that he did not honest towards him.

SELF AND INTERPERSONAL NEEDS

Interpersonal communication also involves self and need time for yourself. In this movie, Komeng want some time over thinking to meet the bomoh to make Nora fall in love with him. After having his own time, he finally make decision to meet bomoh.

HOW WE FORM IMPRESSION OF OTHERS

Many of us build our own impression towards others by knowing or not knowing them. In this movie, Nora impress with Lokman and Do Re and Mi courage in order to catch Komeng and his gang. By this Nora know that four of them was the courageous guys which willing to risk their life in order to catches the bank robbery’s thieves.

In this movie, Do Re and Mi describe Komeng as the selfish and bad guy as he willing to use foolish tactics that was meet the bomoh in order to make Nora left Lokman for him. The three conjugate also describe Nora and Lokman as the suitable and sweet couples and by this perception, they are willing to help them.

In describing people, we cannot avoid stereotyping and prejudice. In this movie, Komeng put his stereotyping opinion on the bomoh. As for him all bomoh cannot beingbelieved as they make money after fooled people. in this case Komeng starting to prejudice the bomoh and after that he started to stereotyping towards bomoh. While Nora’s father, when meet Do Re and Mi at the first time, he was thinking that they are the thieves by looking their faces only without knowing about them.
